[edit] History
Going through a low ratings period, ABC decided to make a show about a famous comic book hero. At the time, the rights for both Superman and Dick Tracy, their first two options, were not available, so they decided to use Batman and gave William Dozier (the producer of pupolar series such as Dennis the Menace and Bewitched), the concept to develop and produce. [1]This resulted in a long term benefit for the character titles, which according to Bob Kane, were about to be canceled[citation needed].
After going through the comic books, Dozier visualized the show as entertaining for both adult an children by making it funny to adults and exiting to children, exploting the comic book aspect and the colorful villains and their gimmicks.[1]
