This is a list of characters from Batman Beyond. Most characters like Terry McGinnis, Shriek, Dana Tan, Max Gibson, Micron, Kai Ro, Mad Stan, Big Time, Inque, Stalker or Paxton Powers were created for this show by the producers, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini with only slight influences from existing characters in some cases. Some others like Bruce Wayne, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Talia, Superman, Big Barda, Starro, Tim Drake and Barbara Gordon are returning characters from previous animated series. And finally, some others like Spellbinder, Aquagirl, Ace the Bat-hound, Blight (Dr. Phosphorus), False Face, Cobra or the Royal Flush Gang are reinterpretations of classic DC Comics characters placed in the Batman Beyond era. The same case with Chronos, a character introduced in Justice League for a story-arc involving the Batman Beyond era. In that series it is also revealed that Amanda Waller and The Parasite are still alive in this era.
The Terrific Trio, a group of superheroes that turns rogue, constitute a tribute to Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four.
Zeta was crated for this show, but the character was redesigned and got his own series soon after. Zeta, along with RO, his companion, returned to Batman Beyond returned for the last episode of the series and no explanation about his new look was ever given. The old design was later featured in Justice League as training robots.

Like in Justice League and The Zeta Project and in opposition to Batman: The Animated Series, most villains in Batman Beyond belong to a corrupt organization or super villain team and tend to have super powers and less insane personalities. Only five villains of Batman's (Bruce Wayne) past returned in this series.
