Along with Lex Luthor and Martha Kent, Dan "Terrible" Turpin was one of the characters visually modeled after famous real people. Turpin was modeled after his creator, Jack Kirby. It is also note worthy the fact that his first appearance in the episode "Tools of the Trade" also marks the first series appearance of "The Fourth World" characters and concepts that were Jack Kirby's DC Comics creations in the series.
