[edit] DC animated Universe history

In Dreams in Darkness he holds Batman captive when he is brought in after crashing the Batmobile outside of Arkham's gates. Believing him to be delusional, Bartholomew treats Batman as an insane person and ignores his warnings of an inminet danger for the entire city. What Bartholomew ignores, although under the effects of the fear gas of the Scarecrow, Batman is actually telling the truth and that the villain really is going to turn Gotham City into a pit of fear operating under the asylum as he said.

In this story he plays the role of Jeremiah Arkham in the Shadow of the Bat four part story The Last Arkham, just as the Scarecrow plays Mr. Zsasz role, only Bartholomew is much more respectful and less sadistic towards Batman.

In The Adventures of Batman & Robin episode Trial, the doctor has gotten white hair and is taken under the Mad Hatter's mental control. In Lock-Up he appears to be the director of the asylum and decides to fire Lyle Bolton, who later returns as Lock-Up and kidnaps him along with other authority figures of Gotham City that he considers "responsible for the existence of threats" like most of the enemies of Batman. Short after, Batman is abble to defeat the villain and save the doctor.

The status of the character is unknown after The Adventures of Batman & Robin.
