Steven Spielberg Presents Freakazoid! is a Warner Bros. animation character created by Steven Spielberg, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini for the American animated series, Freakazoid!. He is characterized by his weird Internet related powers and sense of humor that he uses to mock his enemies while fighting them.
[edit] Premise
The series focuses mainly on the crazy and super heroic adventures of Freakazoid and, to a minor degree, those of other independent vigilantes and adventurers like the incompetent Lord Bravery, the always out of work Huntsman and the morbidly obese Fatman and Boy Blubber.
Dexter Douglas is an uncharismatic computer nerd in his teens, but a freak accident drags him into the internet and he gains the power to change into a Freakazoid when he says the words "Freak in". As such he has super speed, enhanced strength, agility and endurance, knowledge from the Internet, lots of charisma and negligible amounts of sanity. Later in the series, he also develops telekinesis. After his first adventure as a Freakazoid, he decides to become a superhero and throughout the series he faces many super villains.
Much of the humor in the series is slapstick, parody, meta-fiction, and pop-cult references as well as funny or odd situations. The stile often echoes that of Animaniacs as well as Monty Python's, specially because of the way the show is always presented by the announcer and Freakazoid as an irreverent, wacky and self-aware variety comedy. The treats presented by the antagonists are often awkward and and rarely menacing, so Freakazoid can afford make fun of the villains and even himself during the process of defeating them.
[edit] Awards
The second season episode "Hero Boy" later won a Daytime Emmy Award.
