[edit] Location
As in the comics, some images from the show reveal that Gotham City is located in the state of New York. However, it's exact location was never clarified. The first season episode, Joker's Favor, depicted a driver's license of a Gotham area resident, listing his hometown as "Gotham Estates, NY". In The Lion and the Unicorn, when Bruce Wayne leaves for England, it shows Gotham City located on New York's Long Island, clearly in the same location of Queens County.
In the direct to video movie, Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero, a computer screen displaying Barbara Gordon's personal information shows Gotham City, NY as her residence city and her area code as 212 a common Manhattan area code.
In The Mechanic, however, the Stonegate Prison workshop is shown stamping license plates that read "Gotham - The Dark Deco State" (as a reference to the artistic style of the series). This may have been intended to simply be one of the visual gags that were common on the program.

[edit] Population
In Harlequinade it is stated that Gotham City has a population of approximately 10 million people.
[edit] Architecture
Unlike it's cunterpart from the comics or The Batman cartoon, in the DC animated Universe Gotham City has a more Art Decó style mixed with some Gothic elements, reminiscent of the look of the Tim Burton movies, but simplified.
[edit] In Batman Beyond
Batman Beyond, as it is set 40 years in the future, envisions a Gotham City with a futuristic look, with a style that mixes gothic, and Asian influences, reminiscent of the film Akira, with elevated streets looping around buildings. Gigantic buildings of the industrial type replace the gothic architecture based on early 20th century American city.
