[edit] DC animated Universe fictional biography
In the series, Killer Croc is once a pro wrestler and a crocodile wrestler from Florida, but grew dissatisfied with that and turned to crime. He ran afoul of Harvey Bullock, who arrests him for killing a trade union member, and sends him to Stonegate Prison. In Vendetta, Croc has escaped prison and seeks revenge attempting to frame the detective with murder.
In Almos Got 'Im and Birds of a Feather Croc is revealed to be friends with several of the arch-enemies of Batman like the Penguin or the Joker. In Almost Got 'Im batman impersonates him in order to earn the Joker's trust to reveal the location and fate of Catwoman. According to Batman's impecable portrayal, Croc is seen as a rude machist brute who enjoys hanging around with other supercriminals (only all of them geniuses). In Trial, along with several of the Arkham inmates, he kidnaps Batman, in order to "prosecute" him in a "fair trial" organized by them. However, he is in the jury that declared him not guilty of their tragedies. When they decided to execute Batman anyways and escapes, as the strongest of the crowd, Croc blocks the door of the execution room and yelds Batman would have to go through him to get out, next act, Batman knocks him unconscious by electrocuting him to the surprise of all the terrified inmates.
In Sideshow he is determined legally sane, is taken from Arkham Asylum to a distant prison in train, but he bits through his chains (his jaws are strong enough to crush bone like a real crocodile) and escapes. Fleeing through the countryside, he takes refuge in a cabin of naively trusting circus carnies (including a phocomelic "seal boy", a giant, conjoined twins, and a hunchbacked ringmaster). He is tempted to have a peaceful life among people that would not judge him, but that quickly changes his opportunity with his greed for money. Croc planned to betray and kill his hosts for the money they have stored away for supplies. When he is defeated by Batman, he is sent to Stonegate penitentiary.
When he is seen again in The New Batman Adventures, he is once again incarcerated in Arkham. In the episode Love is a Croc he joined forces with the criminal Baby Doll, who having also a bizarre body condition, identifies with him and starts believing she has found a kindred spirit in fellow 'freak' Killer Croc. They went to live in the sewers, committing crimes planned by Doll and carried out largely by Croc. When Baby Doll overhears Croc bragging about how he was using her, and didn't care about her at all, and confirms that he in fact was going out with street women, she betrays him to Batman and Batgirl.
croc doesn't get much respect among his peers. At the begining of Judgement Day, his last appearance, Croc is trying to sell some stolen goods to the Penguin in the back of the Iceber Lounge and gets a very poor deal, while Two-face is treated as a prefered costumer with the best deals. Later that episode Croc is saved by Batman from the Judge, a new vigilante executing some of Gotham's worst criminals (or at least he was trying to so).
In Batman Beyond's episode Terry's Friend Dates a Robot, Bruce Wayne trains Terry McGinnis with androids of Two-face, the Riddler and Killer Croc.
[edit] Croc, Batman and the rock
Ever since his his "almos got 'im" story in the episode with that name, the character has a recurring gag in the series about him trying to kill Batman with a rock. The first time, in Almos Got 'Im, in a poker game with the Joker, the Penguin, Two-face and Poison Ivy, after Poison Ivy and Two-face get to tell their impressive stories about the time they get the closest to kill Batman, Batman, who was impersonating Croc gets his turn:
-TWO-FACE: . . . And if it weren't for this blasted coin. . . I would have got him.
-THE JOKER: Gee, that's to bad, Harv, but I guess you'll always come in second. Anybody else want to go?
-KILLER CROC (BATMAN): ME! There I was, holed up in this quarry when Batman came nosing around. He was getting closer. . . Closer. . .
-POISON IVY: And--?
-KILLER CROC (BATMAN): I threw a rock at him!
(DEAD SILENCE).
-POISON IVY: So, Harvey, when became of the giant penny?
-KILLER CROC (BATMAN): It was a big rock. . .
-TWO-FACE: They actually let him keep it!
(CROC/BATMAN SHIES AWAY).
Batman's portrayal was in fact very good. In Trial, as Batman enters the "court" of Arkham inmates, the members of the jury shout this:
-SCARFACE: Our prosecutor is ready, likewise our fair and impartial jury!
-THE MAD HATTER: Hang him!
-HARLEY QUINN: Shoot him!
-KILLER CROC: Hit him with a rock!
-SCARFACE: And now, all rise for the most honorable, most benevolent, most merciful Judge Joker!
-JOKER: Guilty!
And finally, Sideshow is in a very ironical way, probably the closest Batman has ever come to death. During the chase in the wilderness Batman falls unconscious, and if Croc hadn't been tranquilized, Batman's head would have been successfully smashed in with a rock, the slow thug's very favorite weapon.
[edit] Batman Adventures appearances
In the non canonical spin-off comic The Batman and Robin Adventures, Croc seemed romantically inclined towards reporter Summer Gleeson, to whom he revealed that his mother had died when he was born, and was raised by a cruel aunt who liked to drink (as in the original comic version from Jerry Conway). In other adventures it is revealed Croc is a boxer in an undergrond clandestine arena. He faces a rival that beats him easily at first but he wins in a second matching.
[edit] Design
His design for the first two seasons has the reptilian features mostly in the skin, with a very built but still human complexion and very primitive cave man-like face features. The tone of his skin was grayish rather than green.
The design for The New Batman Adventures season and further appearances, has a more reptilian complexion and face. His head is smaller and his jaw, face, shoulders and especially arms are bigger. The skin tone becomes greener.[edit] Action figure
In 1994 a Killer Croc action figure was released by Kenner. It comes with a small crocodile and Croc has biting action with its head. In 2005 the figure was re-released as part of the Puppets of Crime 4-Pack along with Scarface and the Ventriloquist. Even though Scareface and the Ventriloquist are clearly modeled after the Batman: The Animated Series design, Killer Croc's skin is made greener to match his Te New Batman Adventures Design. The two characters have no particular relationship in the series other than being Arkham inmates and that they were both part of the Trial crowd.[edit] See also
